Josie is a delightful, young, female Flat Coat Retriever. For those of you unaware
of this breed, they are indeed a black Golden Retriever. If you enjoy the
temperament of a Golden, then more than likely you will appreciate a Flattie too.
Josie is petite and weighs about 40-45 lbs.
Right off the bat it will be evident to you that Josie seems to squint. This is
due to the condition she suffers from called Bilateral Entropian. At birth, a dog
with Entropian is born with their eyelashes facing inward -- resting on their
eyeballs basically. Its uncomfortable to say the least -- causing much blinking
or choosing to keep their eyes closed.
The good news is its reversible! Josie is actually the 2nd dog with Entropian
taken into rescue since the inception of ARF. We are familiar with it and will be
getting the ball rolling in order to alleviate the discomfort she is in.
Funds will be needed for her surgery. If Josie's sweet face caught your eye but
she may not be the dog for you, please consider sending a donation of any amount
instead!
Josie is a dear, sweet, special girl. She has a vulnerability that draws you in.
A gentle girl that has a soft touch with everyone. We are thrilled to be able to
give her a second chance. She is a young girl and once she has her corrective
surgery she will have many, many years ahead of her to enjoy and feel oh-so-good!

Updated -- Oct 2006
Thanks to many caring readers, ARF received the necessary funds
needed to pay for Josie's eye surgery, as well as getting her
spayed. The surgery was successful and she is now recovering
comfortably. One of her contributors has volunteered to foster Josie
and ARF is grateful that she will have continued observation, and to
begin to see what life in a loving setting is all about.
And Josie was subsequently
adopted!
